Diabetes mellitus cannot be cured, but by using certain home remedies, the situation can be brought to a controllable level. There are many household therapies that can be used to bring down the level of blood sugar, and thus prove beneficial in the control of diabetes.
This article illustrates some of the simplest home remedies that are used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
Home Remedy # 1
The Indian Plum, known popularly as the jamuna, is very potent in reducing the blood sugar. Its leaves are used as traditional therapy for the control of diabetes. A paste is made out of four to five of its leaves and are mixed with a pinch of rock salt. This is taken early in the morning.
Home Remedy # 2
The seeds of the Indian Plum are mixed with the powder of the Indian Gooseberry, known as amalaki. 100 grams of the seeds of the Indian Plum are taken and they are mixed with four to five of dried Indian Gooseberry. A mixture of this powder is supposed to be taken on a daily basis on an empty stomach with water.
Home Remedy # 3
20 grams of papaya, 5 grams of Acacia catechu and one betel nut are taken and cut into pieces. These are put into half a liter of water and boiled. This decoction is meant to be taken daily after meals.
Home Remedy # 4
The leaves of the gulmohar tree (Flame of the Forest, Butea monosperma) are eaten every morning on an empty stomach. These leaves are chewed properly before swallowing. The juice of the leaves has capacity in reducing the level of sugar in the blood.
Home Remedy # 5
Ten fresh and fully grown curry leaves are taken. These are eaten every morning for three months. Doing so can prevent the diabetes mellitus which is caused due to hereditary factors and obesity. Curry leaves can also reduce the obesity in the person, and hence indirectly reduce the level of sugar in the blood.
Home Remedy # 6
The roots of the bael tree are taken, dried and powdered. One teaspoonful of this powder is mixed with half a teaspoonful of the juice of the bael leaves. This is taken once a day.
Home Remedy # 7
Fenugreek is a bitter herb, which is very effective in the control of diabetes mellitus. The seeds of the fenugreek are the most effective in this respect. Two teaspoons of the powder of the seeds are taken each morning. The seeds can also be swallowed hole, or they can be soaked in a cup of water and taken each morning.
Home Remedy # 8
Simply chewing on about four to five leaves of the neem (Azadirachtha indica) each morning can keep the blood sugar low. The neem is a bitter herb and it is very powerful in controlling the level of sugar in the blood.
Home Remedy # 9
Take a medium sized radish. Extract its juice. Have this juice after meals. Form a routine of having the juice of a radish after every meal. It helps to dissolve the excess carbohydrates consumed through the food. Instead of the radish, the juice of a bitter gourd can also be consumed.
Home Remedy # 10
Mix one cup of carrot juice, half cup of the juice of celery leaves and add half a teaspoon of cumin seeds powder in it. Flavor it with a pinch of salt. Consume this juice on a daily basis.
Home Remedy # 11
Take some unripe bananas, cut them into small pieces and dry them in the sun. When they are thoroughly dried, grind them to a fine powder. Eat one teaspoonful of this powder with cow’s milk daily. This will provide the body with the necessary amount of carbohydrate for metabolism without adding any excess sugar to the blood.
Home Remedy # 12
Take a tablespoonful of the juice of a fresh Indian Gooseberry, amalaki, and mix it with a cup of the juice of bitter gourd. Take this mixture of juices every day after the meals. Both are bitter herbs and they will very effectively bring the blood sugar level down. This mixture will also prevent all kinds of eye problems that might occur in diabetes, such as retinopathy.
Home Remedy # 13
The bark of the madhuca (Madhuca indica) is taken in the form of a decoction. Having such a decoction daily brings the blood sugar down very effectively.
Home Remedy # 14
Prepare a mixture of giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) juice and sweeten it with a little honey. The juice of the whole herb can be taken. This juice must be taken once every day.
Home Remedy # 15
Prepare a cold infusion of triphala choorna (an Ayurvedic preparation of Emblica officinalis i.e. Indian Gooseberry, Terminalia belerica and Terminalia chebula) Take it in quantities of 30 milliliters per day.
